Talad Nam Wat Takien

A nice little trip, not too far from Bangkok, Wat Takien floating market is open all day, 7 days a week. During the week, it's a nice, relaxed way to see an "authentic" talad nam, not crowded by tourists, local or foreign.

Weekdays, as seen above, the docks are quite empty, with a few vendors coming and going, congregating at the far end.

The resident noodle lady pumps out her stuff!

Never know who might pass by!

The temple, itself, offers some interesting takes on practice!

The Temple and market would be best reached by heading to Nonthaburi, by express boat. Hop off at Pier 29 and flag a taxi. It may take a couple tries to find one that knows Wat Takien.

Baan Silapin, "Artist House".

Baan Silapin, "Artist House"

Not too far from the shiny path is a small community that does not appear to have changed much in some time. The "cornerstone" is Baan Silapin, a home converted into an art studio.

Besides offering a glimpse of bygone days, one can take in some of the works created by resident artists. Of course, if you find something you like, purchases are welcomed!

One of the artists at work!

The house is built around some intriguing temple ruins.

Throughout the afternoon, many longtails pass by, offering tourists a fleeting glimpse of the village.

Sculptures are placed throughout the village, adding to the atmosphere

"Puppeteers" entertain passersby

Baan Silapin Is not difficult to visit. From Downtown, it would probably be easiest to take the BTS to Wongwian Yai, then flag a taxi to Charan Santiwong soi 3. Have the driver take you to the 7/11 down the soi, not to be confused with the 7/11 at the main road. From there walk over the bridge to the village. "Baan Silapin" will be to the left, although the surrounding area is good to explore.

To get back out, head back over the bridge and use a songthaew or moto to get outside the soi. Then, flag a taxi to Wongwian Yai or downtown.

Many seem to pass by via longtail. You can, most likely, hire a longtail to do a klong tour into the area.

We're Back!

Because a lot of folks don't like Facebook, and one needs an account to view Facebook pages, we thought we would try the blog approach.

In time, we will learn the blogging ropes and, hopefully, get a better blog hammered out!
